Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District (GCCCD) is committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of its students, staff, and faculty through a comprehensive and well-structured emergency notification system and evacuation procedures.

The emergency notification system is designed to quickly deliver timely and accurate information during any crisis, including natural disasters, campus threats, or medical emergencies. Whether through text alerts, emails, or telephone, these updates provide clear instructions to ensure everyone on campus responds appropriately and stays safe.

Equally important are the evacuation procedures, which ensure the safe and orderly exit from campus buildings during emergencies. The district has also equipped buildings with essential evacuation tools, including accessible routes and chairs for those with mobility challenges, ensuring safety for all.

Calling 9-1-1

Guidelines for when you make the call:

1. Give your name.

2. Give your extension number.

3. Give building name and room number or other specific location.

4. Describe the condition clearly and accurately.

Do Not Hang Up! Let the person you are talking to end the conversation; other information may be needed.

Here are a few good ways to be prepared for emergencies on a college campus that staff, faculty, and students should know:

Know Evacuation Routes: Familiarize yourself with the districtwide evacuation procedures, routes, and assembly points on each campus. Regularly review the campus evacuation maps.

Stay Informed: Ensure your contact information is up to date in the college’s emergency notification system to receive timely alerts.

Create a Personal Emergency Plan: Have a personal plan that includes meeting points, emergency contacts, and how you will communicate with family or roommates during an emergency.

Stay Aware: Be vigilant of your surroundings, and report any suspicious activity to campus or local authorities immediately.

Prepare an Emergency Kit: Keep a small emergency kit with essentials like a flashlight, first aid supplies, water, and snacks in your backpack or office.

Know Emergency Contacts: Save important campus and local emergency contacts in your phone, including local emergency services.

Genasys Protect is an evacuation management tool that helps communities and first responders more effectively plan, communicate, and execute evacuations. It is a platform where residents can look up their addresses using the search bar and use the zone map to find evacuation information for their area.

Watch Duty

Watch Duty is operated by real people—active and retired wildland firefighters, dispatchers, first responders, and reporters—who collaborate in real-time to provide accurate information. Information is gathered from official sources and radio communications, distilling just the facts. When an incident poses a threat to life or property, the public is promptly notified through the Watch Duty app.

Quake Feed

A unique perspective on earthquakes around the world. Maps and alerts to quickly check on quakes. Bonus map layers for wildfires, hurricanes, and erupting volcanoes.

Alert San Diego

Alert San Diego delivers real-time emergency alerts to San Diego County residents, providing critical updates on events like wildfires, severe weather, and evacuations to help keep the community informed and safe.

SDG&E Alerts

SDG&E Alerts provide real-time notifications to customers of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) about power outages, wildfire risks, Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), and other service-related updates. These alerts help residents stay informed about potential disruptions and safety measures, allowing them to prepare and respond accordingly.
