The International Mobil Film Festival, a two-day event showcasing films shot only with cell phones, returns for its second year to Grossmont College from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, April 27, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the Digital Arts Building.
The event is open to the public. Admission is $15 for general admission, $5 for children, $10 for students and seniors and $3 for Grossmont College students.
S. Botello Productions, based in San Diego, created the International Mobil Film Festival to create a platform for filmmakers of all ages to showcase their talents by replacing the film/video cameras with what most people already have in their pockets.
The event includes a showcasing of films on big screens, networking, workshops, exhibits, entertainment and an awards ceremony with a commemorative red carpet walk by the stars and filmmakers.
Among the works to be showcased are those by digital film production students in Grossmont College’s Media Communications program.
”We want to inspire filmmakers and anyone, any age, to make a film; tell a story, and share a message,” said Susan Botello, executive producer and founder of S. Botello Productions. “The purpose of this film festival is not only to create interest and spark creativity in people of all ages with limited income or resources, but to actually inspire creative filmmakers to live to their potential and realize the opportunity to fulfill their dream.”
S. Botello Productions is forming a mobile film resource center to connect the world of filmmaking to mobile filmmakers around the globe via new technological advances with mobile phone cameras.
“We promote the use of technology to produce artistic films and then we assist to publicize the artist through our mediums,” Botello said. “We do this through collaborative programs with schools, businesses and organizations.”
