With commencements now over and sheepskins and certificates now in the possession of newly minted college graduates, Cuyamaca College is joining community entities in sponsoring the East County Community Job and Career Expo from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, in I-207 in the Student Center.
While the event is specifically geared to assist the refugee and immigrant population in East County, the free event is open to the public. Recruiters from industries including banking, customer service, education, general labor, government, healthcare, hospitality, medical offices, retail and security will be present at the job fair.
Joining the college in sponsoring the event are the Public Consulting Group, a consulting agency that assists public-assistance recipients; the East County Career Center, operated under the direction of the Grossmont Union High School District’s Adult Education Department; and the Alliance for African Assistance, a refugee resettlement agency.
“This is the first time we’ve done this,” said Sheryl Ashley, a CalWORKs program specialist at Cuyamaca College. “The focus was to be for refugee CalWORKs recipients, but all students and general public are welcome to attend.”
Representatives slated to attend include those from the Cajon Valley Union School District; the FBI; Goodwill Industries of San Diego County; Harrah’s Resort-Southern California; Viejas Casino and Resort; Wal-Mart; YMCA of San Diego County; H & R Block; the University of California, San Diego; Goodwill Industries of San Diego County; Santibodies, and more.
Jobseekers are urged to dress professionally and to bring along their resumes.
