Accreditation
Each institution is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges accept the obligation to undergo a cycle of periodic evaluation through institutional self-evaluation and external peer review, assessing themselves on meeting eligibility requirements, accreditation standards, and commission policies in terms of their stated purposes.
The cycle of evaluation requires a comprehensive self-evaluation every six years following initial accreditation and a visit by an external team of peers. The cycle includes a mandatory midterm report in the third year as well as any other reports requested by the Commission. All reports beyond the comprehensive self-study may be followed by a visit by Commission representatives.
2020 Reaccreditation
Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges received notice in January 2020 that their accreditations were reaffirmed by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges/Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC).
Before the commission's site visits in Fall 2019, both colleges prepred an Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER). The self-study report is based on historical and contemporary information about the operations of Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges. It also contains analyses and recommendations regarding those operations that demonstrate institutional commitment to continue quality improvement.
The Grossmont College and Cuyamaca College accreditation pages provide information about the accreditation process and the commission letters reaffirming accreditation.
