AED


The red AED/Emergency Response Kits sign will be above the Emergency Response Kits unit, which consists of the following:

1) AED - Automated External Defibrillator

2) Basic First Aid Supplies

3) Choking First Aid 

4) Opioid Overdose Response (Naloxone)

5) Severe Bleeding Control 

6) *Burn First Aid Kit (Grossmont College - Bldgs 30 and 60 only)

In the event of a campus emergency, immediately call 911.

 



Emergency Response Kit Contents and How to Use Them

Note:  Please notify the Public Safety Department if any of the below contents of the Emergency Response Kits were used, to ensure the kits are promptly restocked.

AED Contents

AED Kit Contents:

1) AED Unit
2) CPR Pocket Resuscitator Mask
3) Naloxone Nasal Spray (Narcan)
4) Paper Towel
5) Razor
6) Scissors
7) Sterile Gauze Pad
8) Sterile Nitrile Exam Gloves
9) Tourniquet

GCCCD provides AEDs in buildings around Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges.  AEDs are noted with a red heart icon on the Public Safety webpage AED Location Maps (by college).

In the event of a campus emergency, immediately call 911.

Instructions to use an AED:  

1) Call 911 first.

2) Open the AED and follow the audible prompts/instructions.

3) Open the electrode pad package.

4) Place one pad on the person's bare upper right hand chest as shown on the diagram.

5) Place one pad on the person’s bare lower left hand side's abdomen as shown on the diagram.

6) Do not touch the person while the AED is analyzing.

7) Follow the AED's prompts to apply a shock or give CPR. 

8) The AED will check to see if the person needs a shock and will automatically administer the shock (or tell you when to administer the shock).  If AED shock is not needed, the AED will instruct you to give CPR. 

If a shock is needed, make sure no one is touching the person and press the shock button, then immediately resume CPR.

9) Continue to follow the AED prompts and administer CPR until emergency medical personnel arrive.

This response kit helps treat minor injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, burns, sprains, bleeding, swelling and pain.
