GCCCD is committed to the health and well-being of our staff and students.  Adhering to Cal/OSHA requirements, as of February 3, 2025, GCCCD is no longer required to inform employees of:

  • Potential COVID-19 exposure due to close contact with a positive COVID-19 case
  • COVID-19 outbreaks

All Employees who are positive for COVID-19 must continue to contact Human Resources, Health & Safety Specialist Francys Ropohl at Francys.Ropohl@gcccd.edu (or 619-644-7571).

GCCCD is required track and report all employee COVID-19 cases through next February 3, 2026.

In the event of a significant COVID-19 resurgence, we may choose to implement health and safety measures again, keeping the health and safety of our staff and students at the forefront of our decisions.  Please continue the practice of staying off campus (or going home) if you feel unwell or are experiencing an illness.

The District continues to monitor state and county directives and will continue to keep you updated with any changes.  GCCCD appreciates your cooperation and patience over the past five years as we navigated unprecedented COVID-19 challenges and prioritized our staff and students' health and safety.

Respiratory Viruses

Respiratory viruses, such as influenza (flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) can cause cold or flu-like symptoms and circulate year round.  These viruses can spread through the air by coughing or sneezing and share similar symptoms, risk factors and prevention strategies.

We are still recommending these general health & safety protocols for infection control:

  • Stay home when you are sick or have flu or cold symptoms.
  • Practice Cough Etiquette - Remember to always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or use the inside of your elbow.
  • Hand Hygiene - Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
  • Distancing - Although physical distancing is no longer required, it is always recommended to give people their space when it is possible.
  • Get additional prevention strategies and information from the CDC page:  Preventing Spread of Respiratory Viruses When You Are Sick.

Masks are no longer required.  We fully support and respect those who wish to continue wearing masks as an effective way to protect oneself and others.

The Employee Assistance Program is available to provide information and referrals on a variety of personal needs, including:

  • Referrals to adult/elder and child/parenting support services, in addition to non-medical support with chronic conditions
  • Referrals for household services, shopping, entertainment, health and wellness and other personal services (dog walkers, tailors, translators)
